Hitachi-LG has already given out most of the important details about its latest HyDrive, but the official announcement of the world’s first laptop optical drive, laced with SSD was made very recently. It is surprising that it took so long for this concept to materialize as it was very obvious.

With people wanting more and more out of technology it was imperative that this concept became a reality very soon and offer high definition content. So now that Hitachi LG has finally launched it, it remains to be seen if the rest will follow them and perhaps come up with something even better. But till then let me take you through some of the features of HyDrive.

The HyDrive is simply a standard optical drive, but it has a 32GB or a 64GB SSD attached to it. When you connect this to a laptop you will instantly have access to an optical drive (SSD) and also a large spaced HDD that helps in storing music, media and other stuffs.

Earlier this three drive setup was available only in the beastly Clevo and other similar devices, but this particular solution is custom built for any ODD laced ultra portables. Another significant feature of the HyDrive is an integrated defect management system that helps in caching information from discs that have scratches in them, thus enabling you to play content from even defected discs, that to without any disturbances. All these features add up to make HyDrive an extremely sought after device.
