With the continuous usage, there is the tendency for keyboards to look filthy and grimy and the dust that gets accumulated also hampers the smooth functioning of the keyboard. So, it is very important on your part to keep your keyboard clean so that your productivity does not get hampered in any way.
Cleaning the keyboard is quite simple, all you require is compressed air that you can get in an aerosol can, a soft rag, any cleaning fluid which you use in your household for cleaning plastics and Endust for Electronics. You can also get yourself a dust mask if you are allergic to dust. It is recommended that you should use the manual instructions to avoid any complications.
First disconnect the keyboard after shutting the system. Use the compressed air to clean the dirt or any unwanted pieces that have gathered between the keys and shake the loose dust gently from the keyboard. To avoid any complications later, you must make sure to draw a diagram of the location of the keys. This would simplify the situation when you are putting back the keys. Having a plastic bag handy also ensures that you do not misplace the keys. It is also better to keep the larger keys like the Space bar, Enter and Caps Lock keys on as they can be difficult to get back on.
It is well known that prevention is better than cure. So cleaning your hands before you sit down to work and avoiding food and drink items near your keyboard would surely mean that you do not have to go through the above mentioned steps frequently.
